10 precautions for HDBaseT transmission network tr
2022-11-17

1. Use a network cable

HDBaset signals use conventional twisted pair cables, and the minimum use of super 5 cable and higher standard cables, the higher the resolution, the higher the requirements for cables. (We currently use 24AWG (0.511mm) and 23AWG (0.573mm) for Category 6 wires), so any best practice approach to Ethernet will apply here as well. Cable performance depends on cable quality, connection distance, cable handling, and expected video resolution. The rule of thumb is that the higher the resolution, the better it is to choose a good network cable. The same is true for distance. In any project, the cabling infrastructure is likely to be used for a long time. As a result, its duration is often the same as that of any other component in the network, and the choice of network cable should take into account new applications, new users, and the potential for expansion of the entire system.

2. Do not disassemble the line shares without reason

There's a reason why the strands are twisted together: they cancel out electrical interference from the outside and crosstalk from neighboring questions. When terminating network cables, the length of the strands removed from the endpoint should not exceed half an inch (preferably a quarter of an inch) and the strand sheath should be kept as long as possible.

3. Always handle with care

When the network cable is connected to the crystal head, try not to split the twisted pair cable, and the maximum split size shall not exceed 12mm, preferably 7mm.

When fixing the twisted pair cable, try to use cable ties or velcro, and do not tie them too tightly when fixing, the network cable is flexible, but if it is done roughly, such as too tight when bundling, clamping or fixing, it may damage the network cable, resulting in reduced performance and even blocking the signal

Transmit. Use a suitable cable tie to tie the cable loosely, and if you are designing a large number of cables, be sure to use a suitable cable support system, such as cable reels and clamp cargo J-hooks. If you must pull the cable, do not push too hard, as too much force may also cause the twisted pair to loosen, which can reduce performance. The physical protection layer of the network cable can ensure the integrity of data transmission.

4. Do not bend the network cable excessively

The twisted pair must not be over-twisted and must not be bent more than 5 cm in diameter, and another factor that is critical to the integrity of the cable is the bend radius. The bending radius is the inner curve of the network cable during and after installation. It is best to have a minimum bend radius equal to four times the diameter of the network cable--- which means that the network cable must not be bent below this radius to prevent damage to the network cable and the integrity of the signal transmission. Excessive bending may cause the twisted pair to loosen or change the state of the twisting, which may increase the likelihood that the cable will be affected by external noise and near-end crosstalk within the cable.

5. Be sure to use the network cable away from the power supply, and the cable use environment should be as far away as possible from the strong electromagnetic interference environment

The twisted pair is at least 0.5 meters away from the power cable, and the twisted pair must be shielded twisted pair, and in environments that are susceptible to high electromagnetic interference, it is best to use shielded network cables. Most Cat5e cables are unshielded, which increases resiliency, durability, and reduces costs. But they are also more susceptible to electromagnetic interference.

If you are using an unshielded network cable, be sure to keep it away from any sources of electrical interference, such as other cables, transformers, and lamps. In high RF environments, shielded wires are preferred. The same applies to shielded connectors. In shielded connectors, a metal shield is placed around the signal pins, which further reduces electromagnetic interference. Shielded connectors have a higher fit and therefore better performance.

6. Be sure to consider distance

HDBaseT's 5Play feature supports distances of up to 100 meters/328 feet. One of the factors that affect distance is the quality of the network cable used, the operating environment, and the expected video resolution. When the distance is the same, the signal integrity can be better maintained by the relatively low-quality network cable and the high-quality network cable. At the same distance, a noise-free environment provides better performance than a noisy environment or an environment prone to electromagnetic interference. At lower 720p resolutions, some HDBaseT devices can support long-distance connections ---- 150 meters/492 feet.

7. Jumpers should not be used without reason

Jumpers should be avoided altogether if possible, as each connector will result in a loss of transmitted signal. If necessary, there must be fewer than two jumpers per line, and each jumper must be less than 5 meters from the end of the line.

8. Always terminate with care

One of the advantages of HDBaseT using a network cable is that the network cable can be easily terminated in the field. This means that there is no need to measure the network cable in advance and prepare equipment in advance, which saves time and money. Always use the correct tools when terminating, such as wire strippers, electrician's shears, crimping pliers, etc. Also make sure that both ends of the network cable have the same wiring scheme, T568A or T568B. It is not allowed to have two options at the same time in the same installation project. It is also advisable to check with the HDBaseT manufacturer for their product optimizations and

The scheme used in the calibration is used to maximize the expected performance.

9. Be meticulous, test, test, test.

Testing is critical to ensuring cable quality and signal integrity. Pre-testing saves a lot of troubleshooting time and resources. During and after installation, the joints and transmission performance of the installed infrastructure should be tested by professional testing and design equipment, except for problems such as disconnection and mismatched wires. Also detect any hidden issues that could cause interference or signal loss. Each network cable is tested during installation and termination so that individual issues can be identified in time for the installation process.

10. Be sure to be organized Record and label all cabling components

Easy to upgrade or expand later, including schematics. Remove any scrapped network cables, anticipation of accidents, or fires. Avoid routing through pipes or holes, as this may limit the addition of routing in the future.
